My Lagotto Story

by a Registered Pedigree Lagotto Romagnolo breeder...

Hello and thank you for visiting my website – I am Lucie, I’m originally British, but I have since lived in the USA, The Bahamas and in the South of France. My Lagotto story began 8 years ago in the USA, when we added Bella, a beautiful AKC registered Lagotto Romagnolo puppy to our home. I have been a cat lover since childhood, but this this gentle, affectionate, woolly dog swiftly stole my heart and I was fascinated to learn the history of the Lagotti as a working truffle hunting dog in Italy.

I began researching the remarkable Lagotto Romagnolo breed and was very interested to learn that black truffles were being successfully cultivated in the USA only a few hours away from my home.  I reached out to the renowned dog trainer, Jim Sandford and was very kindly invited to the famous Blackberry Farm Relais Chateau resort in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains and taught how to groom our Lagotto puppy by Jim, the Blackberry Farm Lagotto Romagnolo Trainer and truffle hunter.

A year after the arrival of Bella, we added a second pedigree Lagotto to our home and of course, Bella was thrilled to play with her new baby sister Roma

Roma was such an incredibly cute, photogenic puppy that when I first saw the photos of her (pictured here) I was even doubtful whether the breeder was genuine – since the photos were library images on Shutterstock! Naturally, once I saw her I was smitten. Her champion Lagotto pedigree heritage in conformation, beauty and truffle hunting in the last two generations of her ancestry, plus her clear DNA screening confirmed that she would be an excellent progenitor for future generations of Lagotti…

There have since been two additions to my Lagotto family – Cucciola and Giorgio, two of Roma’s and Pico’s gorgeous puppies and of course the whole furry family is presided over by the boss – my cat Ruby!

These professionally taken photos are of Roma as a puppy. Naturally her puppies have inherited her adorable signature traits - white socks, white chests and white tail tips in both the chocolate and ‘orange’ blonde pups. Her gorgeous brown and white puppies take after their father Pico, a truffle hunting dog from Alba, Italy

A responsible pedigree lagotto romagnolo breeder

When choosing a mate for Roma, it was very important to me to select a genuine working truffle hunting dog from Alba, Italy to preserve the magnificent tradition of the Lagotto Romagnolo breed. Consequently, the puppies are trained from two weeks of age in the time-honoured method of Italian truffle hunters to accustomize the puppies to the scent of truffles in order to become the best truffle dogs.

I take the responsibility of being a Pedigree Lagotto Romagnolo breeder extremely seriously. The parental DNA tests ensure our puppies are free from genetic disease; their bedding and environment is kept scrupulously clean and hygienic and at the optimum temperature. The pups eat a healthy diet to assure they have the best start and are cared for with lots of love and daily cuddles – to create well balanced, affectionate dogs that are eager to become your future best friend…
