Our Lagotto Story...

We are Marc and Lucie – a British couple who have since made our home in the USA, The Bahamas and the South of France. Our Lagotto story began 9 years ago in the UK, when Marc was out dog-walking in the Cheshire countryside and came across a dog-walker with a Lagotto Romagnolo. He was intrigued by this affectionate, playful, woolly dog and was fascinated to learn the history of the Lagotto Romagnolo as a working truffle hunting dog in Italy. Having bred Springer Spaniels as working dogs, Marc began researching this remarkable Italian pedigree breed and a year later we began our search to find a new furry addition to our family – Bella.

A year after the arrival of Bella, we made the decision to find a second Lagotto puppy that we would later breed – and of course, Bella was thrilled to play with her new baby sister Roma

Roma was such an incredibly photogenic puppy that when we first saw the photos of her, we were even doubtful whether the breeder was genuine – since the photos we received were library images on Shutterstock. Naturally, once we saw her we were smitten! Her champion pedigree heritage in conformation, beauty and truffle hunting in the last two generations of her ancestry, confirmed to us that she would be an ideal progenitor for future generations of Lagottos.

These professionally taken photos are of Roma as a puppy. Naturally her puppies have inherited her adorable signature traits - white socks, white chests and white tail tips in both the chocolate and ‘orange’ blonde pups. Her gorgeous brown and white puppies take after their father Pico, a truffle hunting dog from Alba, Italy

RESPONSIBLE BREEDING

When choosing a mate for Roma, it was important to us to select a genuine working truffle hunting dog from Alba, Italy to preserve the magnificent tradition of the Lagotto Romagnolo. Consequently, the puppies have been trained from two weeks of age in the time-honoured method of Italian truffle hunters to accustomize the puppies to the scent of truffles in preparation for their future training as hunters.

We take our responsibility as breeders extremely seriously: to ensure our puppies are free from genetic disease; eat a healthy diet to assure they have the best start and are cared for with lots of love and cuddles – to create well balanced, affectionate dogs that are eager to become your future best friend…
